Financing Solar

Paying for Solar 101

There are a variety of ways to finance solar on a home, business, or non-profit.
In the simplest case, you are putting solar on your home, and you take the tax credit.  However, you may want to put solar on a non-profit, and wonder if that means you can't take any tax credits.  There are ways to still take the tax credits.  In fact, because both the tax credit and depreciation can be used, there are several ways to put solar on a business or non-profit that are no net money-out-of-pocket -- basically, the investor allows use of their money for a 5-year period, and after that the investor has their money back, and the organization has solar without spending any money.
The slides below (paying_for_solar_101_slides.pdf) illus
trate some of these methods, and the Word document (financing_of_solar.pdf) lays out more detail.  The sample PPA and sample LLC available below may be useful in implementing these methods.
